 Name: Steve Starr
Type of Amputation: Uni-Lateral B/K
In 1997, while riding a three-wheeler, Steve Starr was stuck by a car, which caused him to lose his left leg below the knee. Steve, a Prosthetic & Orthotics Technician for Hanger says, "I was shoved into the motor which caused me to lose my leg."
Since becoming an amputee Steve has tried hundreds of feet. "The gait never felt right on the feet I tried, then my Prosthetist had me try the College Park TruStep foot," Remembers Steve, "I loved it from the beginning and stayed with College Park from then on."
Steve admits since he was introduced to the College Park products, he has stayed with College Park, he just didn't like other feet. When he was asked to test out the new Onyx foot he was ready for the challenge. Steve says, "The Onyx was lighter and I could walk through mountains and up and down bleachers with no problem. The Onyx foot seems to be more responsive. When I start running I can go into a sprint immediately."
The first time Steve walked with the new Onyx foot he says, "It took me just a short time to get used to it. I walk about 16 hours a day and I noticed that with the Onyx I am not as tired, it's as if the Dynamic Pylon stores energy for me."
Steve who plans on attending the Extremity Games in 2008 hopes to bring the Onyx foot with him. "I enjoy all types of sports from football to basketball and I even still enjoy riding three wheelers and dirt bikes." Steve adds, "I also enjoy running and riding regular bikes too, and with the Onyx foot there is nothing holding me back, it's so light."
Steve says that no one even notices he is an amputee. "99% of people can't even tell, because with the Onyx foot I walk the same."
Steve goes on to say, "The Onyx foot is very beneficial, if I was the Prosthetist I would put one on everyone who could have it because this foot is so universal. It's an awesome foot!"
