Nearly 15 years ago, a motorcycle accident severely damaged Jim Young's left leg, which after 28 surgeries caused him to have his leg amputated. "I'm always interested in trying new things," says Jim, "so when I saw an ad for the TruStep back in 1996, I called my prosthetist because I wanted to give it a try." Following his experimentation with several other feet including the Seattle Foot, the Carbon Copy II Foot, the SACH Foot, Cirrus Foot and various Flex Feet, Jim wanted to try something a little different. "The other feet didn't have enough motion and they didn't stay flat on the ground, so it was like walking on the edge all the time," says Jim. "My first impression of the TruStep was positive," he recollects. "It felt more like a real foot."
Although Jim was very pleased with the performance and dependability of his TruStep, he decided to test out the College Park Venture Foot when it was released in 2003. Jim continues to wear the Venture. "If you're tired of living on the edge, the foot will not disappoint you," he says with a grin.
"Now I can do everything I want without having to think about it," says Jim. "I like to golf, and I used to participate in Pentathlons." When he's not on the golf course, Jim is in his prosthetic facility fitting his patients. "My facility is located in the small South Georgia town of Tifton. The town is very Mayberry-like, and I think that's cool! So, if you're ever in Tifton and your leg falls off, stop by Amputee Prosthetic Clinic and see me," Jim says with a laugh.
