 Name: Johnny Wilson
Occupation: Prosthetic Technician/Working Toward Bachelors in Prosthetics
Type of Amputation: BK
This summer, Johnny Wilson will receive his Bachelors of Science in orthotics and prosthetics. "I like doing things for myself," he says of his professional change. After working as an electrician for 7 years, a devastating car accident changed the course of Johnny's life, and correspondingly, his career path.
The day of the auto accident, Johnny lost his right leg below the knee. As a young man in his mid twenties, Johnny had to acclimatize to his newly altered life and body. "I was on crutches for a while, and then I got onto a SACH foot," he recalls. Johnny also tried the Carbon Copy 2 Foot as well as the Pathfinder Foot from Ohio Willow Wood. "The Pathfinder was very heavy and not as durable as the TruStep. I also had a lot of problems with delamination," Johnny says. Dissatisfied with the feet he had tried, Johnny continued to shop around for something better.
On the search for the foot that worked best for him, Johnny, through his work in the prosthetics field, learned about College Park in 1995. As an avid skier, he found that the TruStep worked extremely well for his sporting activities, as well as his everyday life. "I was really impressed with my comfort level, especially on uneven ground," Johnny exclaims. "The TruStep is the Cadillac of feet on the everyday path of life." He has been on the TruStep for just about 10 years now.
On his new job in prosthetic fitting, Johnny says, "I enjoy my job now more than ever. I get to work with people just like me every day," he smiles. "I think that the best advice I could give any amputee as far as the TruStep goes is to try it. I recommend the TruStep to my clients daily."
