 Name: James Daniels Jr.
Occupation: Retired Distributor Sales Representative
Type of Amputation: BK
Jim Daniels was 54 years old when complications from diabetes led to him becoming a left b/k amputee. Jim was originally diagnosed as diabetic in 1997 and immediately needed part of a toe removed from his right foot. He then developed Charcot's Foot on his left leg, which led to a bad ulcer. Jim's doctors tried several ways to save his left foot and while there were periods of improvement, the foot was basically immoble and left Jim battling countless infections. After months of treatments, Jim realized his foot would never be back to normal so he took the advice of his doctors and decided to amputate.
Looking back Jim says, "Walking is taken for granted until you can't...then it's hard to explain the loss." Before the amputation Jim was dependant upon electric scooters to get around stores, but not any more. "I am so relieved that I don't have to use them....it's a great feeling." Jim's first prosthetic foot experience was with the College Park TruStep and he says the foot put him back in control.
Jim is an informed consumer and researched several possible feet before choosing the TruStep. When asked how he felt the first time he wore the TruStep, Jim said, "Having studied the web site I knew what to expect, but it was still amazing." His doctor prescribed visits to a physical therapist as part of his recovery process, but after seeing Jim walk on his first visit, the therapist said, "Why are you here?" and it was decided that Jim didn't need physical therapy after all.
Jim has recently been enjoying several hobbies he wasn't able to participate in while his foot was ulcerated...he works out at the gym 3 times a week and is getting back into cycling, golf and hiking. And to top it all off he is really enjoying time spent with his 8 grandkids and working as a "house-husband". Jim likes to share his story and tell people about the TruStep Foot. He says, "I chose your product and you have a satisfied customer."
