 Name: Geoff Nicholas
Type of Amputation: BK
Profession: Pro-Golfer, Golf Instructor
Geoff Nicholas is the amputee golfer with the most wins-ever. But that's not why he plays. "I continue to play because number one - I enjoy it. And to see all the friends I've made over the years."
Geoff has played the sport as long as he has been an amputee, 29 years. He lost his leg at 13 years of age; do to the drug thalidomide, a common relief for expectant mothers experiencing morning sickness in the 1950s and '60s. Thalidomide caused birth defects such as short limbs, missing bones, missing limbs, or even fatalities.
Despite the loss of his limb, Geoff played on - and he played on to become the best amputee golfer. He recently gave up his 12-year reign as the National Amputee Golf Champion to newcomer Kenny Green at the 2002 NAGA Tournament at The Legends Golf Course in Nashville, Tennessee.
He's also been a card-holding Australian PGA member for parts of 8 seasons. If that's not enough, he's also a golf instructor in his home of Sidney, Australia.
"Walking has become so much easier, especially on hills. While walking, my foot actually feels like it's a part of my leg," says Geoff.
