Name: Cindy Mercer

Occupation: Configuration/Data Manager

Type of Amputation: Right AK

In 1985, Cindy Mercer was amputated above the knee as a result of osteosarcoma, a tumor that tends to materialize in connective tissues.

To say that Cindy is active is quite the understatement. "Most of my recreational activities tend to revolve around my children. As a mother of two girls, ages seven and five, we are constantly busy with cheerleading, ice-skating, swimming, and countless school activities. We also enjoy bike riding, trips to the beach, visits to Florida theme parks, and walking with the newly acquired family puppy."

Cindy first walked on her Venture Foot in 2005. "As with any new addition to my prosthesis, the first few steps felt unfamiliar and strange. I was surprised to find, however, that it took only a very short time to transition and feel comfortable walking again," she says. "My mobility has also increased due to the Venture's ability to move from side to side, a feature that was not available in my previous single-axis foot."

Of her Venture Foot, Cindy says, "the Venture's multi-axial design allows me to move in all directions and respond dynamically to changing ground surfaces. This is especially obvious when walking on a playing field, where each step can feel different. I now worry less about adjusting to what is underfoot, confident that my Venture will do the work for me. Overall, I walk with more confidence, enjoy a wider range of motion, and feel less tired at the end of the day. I have found the Venture to be a highly reliable foot that has greatly improved my mobility, confidence, and range of motion. I would recommend the Venture to anyone looking to maintain an active lifestyle."
