The grants are funded through the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR); National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR); Defense Health Program (DHP) Small Business Innovative Research through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP); and Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program's (CDMRP) Orthotics and Prosthetics Outcomes Research Program (OPORP).
The grant projects include developing a device to improve blood flow in residual limbs at risk of additional amputations; a powered hand orthosis; new technologies to train upper-limb myoelectric prosthesis users; and a system to obtain quantitative outcome measures related to optimizing lower-limb prosthesis balance and dynamic function.
