There are accidents, health issues and numerous other causes for amputations, but nothing sounds quite so horrific as witch doctors cutting off albino children's feet, thinking they are "magical limbs".
In Tanzinia, Africa, many amputees are albino children who have had their legs amputated by local Warlords practicing Witchcraft, believing that albino bones fend off evil spirits and bring prosperity. Unfortunately, only a few victims survive these attacks and are usually housed in "camps" that are very basic. To combat this travesty, Step by Step Missions was founded with the goal of connecting with the albino amputees who have survived attacks and provide them with prosthetic care.
Heeding the challenge Step by Step Mission was faced with, College Park donated a box load of prosthetic feet for their next trip to Tanzania, including both children and adult sizes. "We can’t imagine the barbaric mindset of these warlords and the horror they cause. We admire the team at Step by Step Missions for their passion to bring the prosthetic care that is so desperately needed. We only hope a high functioning prosthetic foot can bring back some of the functionality that was so savagely taken from them.”
